Description
The Bull Inn is a 17th-century inn with later alterations, located on Market Street in Charlbury. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble with timber lintels, a slate roof, and brick chimneys, forming an L-plan structure. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a five-window range.
The left part features a central door with six raised and fielded panels beneath a flat hood, flanked by three-light casement windows under timber lintels. The first floor has similar windows with 20th-century louvered shutters and awnings, and there are iron ties present. The right part includes a four-light ground-floor casement window under a long timber lintel, which likely served as a shop front, and to the left is a 20th-century inserted doorway that replicates the main entrance. Each half of the building has one 20th-century roof-light.
Inside, the ground floor boasts stop-chamfered ceiling beams and a 17th-century angled fireplace with a stone lintel in the right room.
