Description
49 Church Street is a building from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th century. It is three stories tall and has a three-window front made of rubble, with the render partially removed. The building features rusticated quoins and a slate roof, with a square red brick chimney stack on the left and a later cement-rendered chimney on the right. The eaves are narrow.
The windows have deep architraves and are horned 6-pane sashes. The central window on the second floor has been blocked up, and the cills of the flanking windows almost touch the lintels of the first floor. There is a central doorcase with a pediment, reeded pilasters, and an implied four-panel door with a traceried fanlight above. To the right, there is a square-headed entry that leads to a through passage.
Inside, the building retains six-panel doors and panelled reveals at the front door. One first-floor bedroom has Georgian panelled cupboards decorated with diamond details and fluted bands. There are also some lightly chamfered beams, a turned newel, and ornamented tread ends on the staircase. At the rear, there is a small arched recess.
