Description
Poplar House is a Georgian building that is symmetrical, featuring three storeys and a three-window painted roughcast front. It has a plinth and quoins, a slate roof, wide boarded eaves, and red brick end chimney stacks, with the one on the right being larger. The first and ground floors have 12 and 16-pane flush frame sash windows with deep lintels. The doorcase, which dates from the early 19th century, includes a cornice, a round arched opening, and octagonally panelled reveals, along with a half-glazed door and a plain fanlight. There are modern semicircular steps leading up to the entrance and small cellar openings. The left side of the building is similar, featuring cill bands. The second floor has a 16-pane sash window, the first floor has a 20-pane sash window, and there is a tripartite small-pane window beside the half-glazed door on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a Victorian two-storey lean-to with a gabled porch.
Inside, there is a simple Georgian interior with a narrow stairwell and hall, featuring a tapered newel with a slightly swept up handrail. The doors are imported and panelled, and there are beams in the Victorian range at the rear. The kitchen fireplace has a cambered lintel. Additionally, there is a rubble kitchen chimney breast at the rear and one Gothic window, along with some modern alterations. The rubble right gable is slightly cut back at the rear.
