Old Schoolhouse, Falls Of Truim

The Old Schoolhouse at Falls of Truim is a building from 1874 that served as a school following the Education Act of 1872, and it has since been converted into a single house. The design is notably cottage-like on its main southeast front, featuring a single storey and a symmetrical layout with a central porch and three-light outer windows, along with end stacks. The upper level has windows set in the gable heads. The porch provides access to the house, with rooms to the left and upper rooms illuminated by two gable-head lights. A rear wall-head gable also contains one window. The schoolroom occupies the right-hand, or northern, part of the building and is accessed from a nearly full-width lean-to on the gable, which has a three-light window above it topped by a ventilator roundel. The building features UPVC windows and is constructed of rubble with ashlar detailing, although it is currently heavily pointed in cement. The rear wall is harled, and the slate roof has deep eaves. The property is enclosed by rubble-built walls that once served as a playground but are now part of the garden.
