Loch Croistean Centre, Old School and Schoolhouse, Uig, Isle of Lewis

The Loch Croistean Centre, which includes an old school and schoolhouse, was built shortly after the Education Act of 1872. It is a combined school and schoolhouse, following a basic pattern commonly found on the Isle of Lewis. The building has an asymmetrical design, featuring harled walls and slate roofs with projecting eaves. The windows are small-paned sashes, either single or with timber mullions, and there are prominent chimney stacks.

The school section is on the right and is a single-storey structure with a tall tripartite window in the front gable and a porch that is recessed on the right flank. There is a modern outshot at the back.

The house section has higher eaves and roof levels, also a single storey with an attic. It has a two-bay front, with a bipartite window on the right and a swept-roofed window at the first floor, along with a narrow ground floor window to the left. A corrugated iron porch is recessed on the left gable, with three windows above.

Surrounding the property are garden and playground walls made of rubble, along with square gatepiers, which are also made of rubble, while those at the roadside are harled.
