Description

Built shortly after the Education Act of 1872, as school and schoolhouse combined, variant of a basic pattern seen elsewhere on Lewis. Asymmetrical. Harled, slate roofs with projecting eaves; single or timber-mullioned windows, all small-paned sashes. Prominent stacks. SCHOOL to right, single storey with tall tripartite in front gable, porch recessed on right flank, modern outshot behind.

HOUSE has higher eaves and roof levels, single storey and attic; 2-bay front, bipartite at right, swept-roofed at first floor, single narrow ground floor window to left; corrugated iron porch recessed on left gable, 3 windows above.

Garden and playground walls, all rubble built, as are the square gatepiers (those at roadside are harled).
