School And Schoolhouse, Kinacarra, Kinlochmoidart

The school and schoolhouse at Kinacarra, Kinlochmoidart, were likely designed by William Leiper, with alterations and additions made around 1885. This asymmetrical two-storey house is connected to a single-storey school that adjoins the east gable. The exterior is finished with harl pointed rubble and features tooled rubble dressings.

The house has a central door that is concealed by a tall, projecting gabled porch, which includes timber frame detailing and multi-pane glazing on the door and sidelights. On the west side, there is a canted bay window that rises to the full height of the building and is topped with a facetted slate roof. The walling between the ground and first floor windows breaks the eaves under a shallow swept dormer.

The single-storey, two-bay wing on the west gable connects to the school. The school itself is a single-storey structure with a wide gable, linked to the house on the east side. It features a gabled porch with a front entrance and a double leaf plank door at the centre of the east elevation. The south gable has a large centre two-light window beneath a tile-hung canopy. Both buildings exhibit varied glazing, with some decorative lattice pane glazing still present in the bay windows of the schoolhouse. The buildings have end stacks, slate roofs with projecting eaves, and a decorative tile ridge on the school, along with pottery finials throughout.

Additionally, there is a single-storey, two-bay rubble outbuilding in the garden to the east, which has a slate roof and a tile ridge.
