Description

Lodge; probably William Leiper, circa 1884. Single storey

and attic L-plan gate lodge. Grey rubble with contrasting

tooled red sandstone dressings. Projecting gabled porch

in SW re-entrant angle; bipartite in west gable under

relieving arch with decorative occulus above; east facing

gable (giving on to drive) canted and fenestrated at SE (to

view up drive); 8-pane glazing; roll-mouldings to window and

door architraves, returning as pulivated string course

detailing at west gable. Flat skews with kneelers and apex

ball finials at east gable; gabletted crowstepps elsewhere,

end and ridge stacks, slate roof.

Gate piers and flanking walls; 3 squat round rubble piers

with conical caps with ball finials, serving carriage and

pedestrian entrances. Ashlar coped flanking quadrants,

serving as gate lodge garden wall.
