Gatepiers And Flanking Walls, West Lodge, Kinlochmoidart House

The West Lodge at Kinlochmoidart House is a gate lodge, likely designed by William Leiper around 1884. It is a single-storey building with an attic, arranged in an L-shape. The structure is made of grey rubble with contrasting tooled red sandstone dressings. Notable features include a projecting gabled porch located in the southwest re-entrant angle, and a bipartite window in the west gable set under a relieving arch, which has a decorative oculus above it. The east-facing gable, which opens onto the drive, is canted and has a window at the southeast that features 8-pane glazing. The window and door architraves have roll-mouldings that continue as a pulivated string course detailing at the west gable. The roof has flat skews with kneelers and apex ball finials at the east gable, while gabletted crowstepps are present elsewhere, along with end and ridge stacks, and a slate roof.

The gate piers and flanking walls consist of three squat round rubble piers topped with conical caps and ball finials, which serve both carriage and pedestrian entrances. The flanking quadrants are made of ashlar and are coped, functioning as the garden wall for the gate lodge.
