Description
The Road Bridge over the River Shiel at Shiel Bridge was built in 1935. It is a wide bridge featuring three arches, constructed with a concrete face and bullfaced rubble, accented with tooled ashlar dressings. The bridge has three segmental-headed ashlar arch rings, with the center arch being slightly wider. Rounded cutwaters rise as giant pilasters, which have corbelled heads that form semi-circular cutwaters. The end piers also feature similar giant pilasters. The bridge is topped with a crenellated parapet that is splayed at the north end, where it is approached by a long causeway that crosses a small, single-span flood bridge built in a similar style.
