Pier, The Cannery, Shiel Bridge

The Cannery at Shiel Bridge is an early 19th century fishery building located at the mouth of the Sheil River. It consists of a store and fish-house along with two icehouses. The store and fish-house is a two-storey, irregular four-bay structure facing west, featuring single-storey lean-to extensions at both the north and south gables. The building has low gabled wings that project westward, creating a U-shaped courtyard at the front. It is constructed of rubble with tooled rubble dressings.

The main entrance is an off-centre wide doorway with double leaf plank doors, and there are two similar openings on the first floor. The fenestration is symmetrical, with multi-pane glazing in the outer bays. There are four ground floor windows on the rear elevation. The building has an end stack at the south gable and a square apex finial at the north, topped with slate roofs. Additionally, there is an earlier 19th century rubble pier associated with the site.
