Description

Later 19th century gabled house incorporating late 18th/early

19th century simple 2-storey, 3 bay house. Mainly harl

pointed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings; some random

rubble with harling at rear, indicating earlier house.

Interior decoration and fittings, Robert Lorimer, 1897.

SE. facing 2-storey, irregular 4-bay front, with gabled

entrance porch in off-centre re-entrant angle, with

round-headed entrance. Flanking projecting wing at left

with ground floor canted bay window; lean-to verandah at

right linked to square bay window with lean-to roof. Mainly

bipartites; 2-pan glazing end wooden finials; end and

ridge stacks; slate roofs with projecting eaves. Irregular

rear wing mainly 2-storey and attic.

Interior; much internal decoration in simple Arts and Crafts

manner by Robert Lorimer, 1897; moulded wooden white

painted chimney pieces, some with simple carved floral

motif, in dining room dated 1897 and initialled SCT. (S. C.

Thomson).

Drawing room; simple panelling; brass grate with marble

surround and moulded mantel piece.

Entrance lobby; panelled dado; green marble surround to small

grate. Stair case; "cut-out" floral motif to panelled

balustrade.

Billiard Room (1st floor) simple panelling with raised

floral design; 2 original chimney pieces.
