Description

Johnstone Bridge is a road bridge designed by engineers Blyth and Blyth, dated 1939. It features a single segmental arch that carries a dual carriageway over the River Annan. The bridge was widened sympathetically around 1980, maintaining its original profile. It is constructed of reinforced concrete and is clad in bull-faced red ashlar, mostly snecked. The parapets are channelled and have massive drum terminals. Inscribed stones from an earlier bridge built in 1818 by Thomas Telford are set near the southern end of each parapet.
