Description
Goodhope Farm is an 18th and early 19th century farmstead comprising a house and associated ranges, forming the south range of a courtyard. The buildings are constructed of whitewashed rubble with contrasting painted ashlar dressings, and have slate roofs.
The farmhouse dates to the 18th century, originally a three-bay, symmetrical design. Early in the 19th century, two flanking recessed wings were added and linked to the steading. The farmhouse features heavily-droved ashlar dressings, an original central porch with blind flanking doorways, corbelled eaves, and a fanlight that breaks into a pedimented gable. Brick stacks are located at either end of the building. A wing at the northwest angle abuts the western range of the steading, with a pend (archway) at ground level – an unusual arrangement.
The steading, largely built in the second half of the 18th and earlier 19th century, consists of individual, single-storey ranges, mostly with piend roofs, arranged around a cobbled courtyard. A notable feature is a detached, rectangular cartshed with a loft, built with a trabeated (beamed) structure. A byre is located to the northwest.
