Description
Girthhead is a house built in the second half of the 17th century or early 18th century. It is a two-storey building with a dormerless attic and features three bays. The exterior is whitewashed rough-rendered rubble with ashlar dressings that have chamfered and contrasting painted margins. There is an architraved doorway on the east side, which is located behind a circa 1900 off-centre brick porch. The southeast corner of the house was rebuilt in the 19th century.
The house has sash windows, most of which have small-paned glazing. There is a single blocked window on the first floor to the west and an attic window in the east gable end. The building features a moulded eaves cornice, skews, and shaped skewputts over the north gable, along with rebuilt end stacks. The roof is covered with small, uniform slates and has stone ridging. A lean-to structure has been added against the north gable, likely in the first half of the 19th century.
Access to the property is via a cobbled track that approaches from the east through a tree-lined avenue.
