Description
Wamphray School and Schoolhouse is an earlier to mid-19th century building consisting of a two-storey, three-bay schoolhouse with a lower single-storey school extending north from the east gable. The structure is built from rubble with contrasting painted margins and dressings, and it has a roof covered with graded slates.
The south elevation of the house features a plain pedimented doorpiece with a recessed central panelled door that includes a fanlight, along with plate glass sash windows and end stacks. There is a low rear wing.
The school has large windows, mostly bipartite with small panes. The long east elevation has four bays, with outer gables topped by spike finials, a single-window north end wall, and a bipartite window to the south. A range to the north, which was formerly detached, is now connected by a modern porch. There are former toilets beyond this connection and rubble-built playground walls surrounding the area.
