Description
Stenrieshill is a substantial farmhouse built between 1830 and 1840. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with detached rear wings and a courtyard steading to the north that includes a circular horsemill. The building is constructed of rubble, with the main elevations of the house rendered to resemble ashlar, and features ashlar dressings. The exterior is whitewashed with contrasting painted margins, and all roofs are covered with graded slates. Gatepiers flank the driveway.
The house has three-bay elevations, with the south elevation featuring a central doorway topped by a consoled pediment. The door is recessed and has glazed upper panels, while the ground floor has bipartite windows in the outer bays. The windows are sash style, and the house has corniced axial stacks and a piended U-plan roof. The rear wing is nearly full-height and full-width, with a double-pitched roof and wallhead stacks, and there is a modern porch in the west re-entrant angle.
The steading is U-shaped, consisting of two adjoining L-plan ranges. The tall range at the eastern end of the courtyard includes a barn, cartshed, stables, and square loft openings. The horsemill is located to the north, while the single-storey range at the west primarily contains byres and features glazed roof ventilators, with a twin-gabled south end.
The gatepiers are rectangular in section, made of painted ashlar, and have plain crests with pyramidal caps.
