Description

Moffat, Wamphray, is a farmhouse built around 1830-1840, featuring two storeys and three bays, along with a full-height rear wing. The exterior is rendered with contrasting ashlar dressings. The west elevation, which is the main front, has a central recessed doorway topped with a consoled pediment. This doorway contains a timber door with glazed upper panels and a fanlight above it. The south elevation has three bays, with an advanced gable on the left side and a central door located behind a late 20th-century conservatory. There is also a lower range that is adjoined and recessed from the north gable.

The windows are timber sash and case, primarily with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The farmhouse has squat coped end stacks with clay cans and a pitched roof covered with graded slates. The eaves overhang, revealing exposed purlins.

The interior was last seen in 2014 and retains much of its original 19th-century layout, although some alterations have occurred, such as the removal of fireplaces and their surrounds. Decorative plaster cornicing can be found in the principal rooms, along with panelled shutters and doors, moulded architraves, and a curved timber stair with a plain timber banister and metal railings. The ground floor drawing room features a recessed niche, and there is a larder with sandstone shelving.

Additionally, there is a rendered and coursed rubble boundary wall to the southeast, topped with flat coping stones and squat obelisk gatepiers.
