Bargrennan School And Schoolhouse

Bargrennan School and Schoolhouse is an early 19th-century single-storey building that served as both a school and a schoolhouse. The structure features a three-bay house on the north side, which is slightly higher than the adjoining school on the south side. The walls are made of rubble, with the northern section painted. The building includes granite rybats and quoins, and polished granite margins on the east elevation of the house.

On the east elevation, the house is located to the right and has a double-leaf boarded door with a letterbox fanlight at the center, flanked by windows in the outer bays. The school, which is slightly recessed to the left, has two windows and a gabled porch on the left side, featuring a boarded door to the north return and a window facing east.

The west elevation has windows in the outer bays of the house, with a gabled porch at the center. This porch has a door to the north return, a window to the west, and a small flat-roofed addition with a window on the south return. The school also has two windows on this elevation.

The north elevation is blank, as is the south elevation. The building primarily features 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows, with 4-pane glazing on the east elevation of the house. The roof has red sandstone coped skews mutual to the west pitch, coped gablehead stacks on the house, and is covered with small grey slates. There are two flat-roofed dormer windows on the east pitch of the house and two rooflights on the west pitch of the school.

Inside, the school has a boarded dado.
