Garlies Lodge Motor House

Garlies Lodge is a lodge dating from 1910, designed by Humphreys Ltd of London. It is a single-story building with a gabled form and a surrounding verandah. The lodge is built with corrugated iron cladding, originally featuring mock half-timbered detailing, and sits on rubble foundations. The windows are largely 6-pane casements, mainly of two lights, with 6-pane upper panels to the panelled doors, which have moulded surrounds. A corniced rendered ridge is present on the stack to the service wing; there were formerly stacks to both the north and south pitches.

The verandah extends along the south, east, and north elevations; the roof sweeps down from the main pitch to the north and south, with a gambrel on the east side, incorporating a timber walkway, of which only the timber balustrade handrail now remains.

The east (entrance) elevation is of three bays, with a central door flanked by double-leaf doors in the outer bays. A five-bay verandah occupies the front, with a gabled central bay. The south elevation has four bays (three bays and one bay), containing a three-light window in the right-hand bay, with regular fenestration in the other bays, and a six-bay verandah. The north elevation also has four bays (one bay and three bays), and includes a three-light window in the left-hand bay, windows in the central bays, and a small bathroom window in the right-hand bay. A six-bay verandah is present, with a gable over the bay to the right of the centre. The west elevation incorporates a service wing linked to the west gable by a passage. A window is present to the east and west of the wing. A door and a small window flank the west elevation to the left, with a three-light window to the left of the centre, and a window to the right of the gabled north elevation, formerly with a door to the left. An E return window is also present. The gabled south elevation of the west wing is recessed to the left, with windows to the left and right.

The interior features timber-boarded walls and ceilings, a central hall, and originally comprised a dining room and sitting room to the east, alongside four bedrooms, a bathroom, and a box room. Cast-iron fireplaces are also present.

A motor house, also by Humphreys Ltd in 1911, is located to the west. This building combines a garage and carport with residential quarters, both rectangular in plan, and adjoined to form L-plans on the east and west. It is clad in corrugated iron and has 6-pane windows in timber frames, largely of two-light design. A corniced rendered ridge stack is located on the east. The west elevation presents an L-plan to the left, with a garage on the right. A canopied door, with a 6-pane upper panel, is situated to the far right, alongside two windows. A window is present to the east return. The gabled bay to the right features a four-light window, and a carport is located to the right. The south elevation has a roof extended on two timber piers to create an open gabled carport to the left, with a concrete floor. Double-leaf boarded doors provide access to the garage. A single-light window is present to the south return, and a window is located to the right, formerly with a door flanking to the left. The east elevation contains a window in the gabled bay to the left, and a three-light window at the centre. The north elevation is gabled and features an outhouse adjoined to the right, with a door to the west and a window to the north.

Two cast-iron gatepiers and a drystone rubble wall are also part of the property.
