Description

Culshabbin School House is a former school and adjoining schoolhouse built after 1872. It is a two-storey building with the first floor in the attic, and a single-storey school attached to the west. The structure is made of rubble that is squared and snecked on the south side, with dressed granite lintels, cills, rybats, and quoins.

On the south elevation, the house is to the right with an advanced gable featuring a bipartite window at the ground floor and a window in the gablehead. There is a moulded, red sandstone square panel to the right. The school to the left has two windows.

The east elevation has a door with a deep fanlight to the left and a window to the right at the ground floor, along with a window in the gablehead. There is a single-storey piended wing attached to the right.

The west elevation features a lean-to that extends nearly the full length of the elevation, with boarded doors to the north and south.

On the north elevation, there are two classroom windows to the right, a gable to the left, and a window to the right at the ground floor. A single-storey piended wing is attached to the left, and there is a bipartite window in the gablehead. The windows are timber sash and case, with 8-pane glazing for the house and 12-pane glazing for the school. The building has red sandstone coped skews, rubble stacks with dressed granite quoins and red sandstone copes, and a ridge between the house and school, with a gablehead on the house. The roof is covered with small grey slates, and there are octagonal cans. A gabled former toilet block is located to the north.
