Description

Airylick Farmhouse and Cartshed is a late 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that has a slightly lower pitch on the rear jamb, forming a T-plan. The building is constructed of painted rubble, with the east and west elevations harled. It features projecting cills and is set on sloping ground to the south.

The south elevation, which is the principal front, has a tall gabled stone porch at the center, with a panelled door and a fanlight on the west return. There are steps leading up to the door made of red sandstone, along with a window to the south and another on the east return. The fenestration is regularly arranged, with a smaller window at the center of the first floor.

On the west elevation, there is a window to the right of center at the basement and another to the right at the first floor. The east elevation features a window at the center of the ground floor and one to the left at the first floor. The north elevation has windows on both floors to the left and right, a gabled jamb at the center, a door to the right, and windows on both floors to the left on the west return. There is also a window on both floors at the center of the east return, while the north side is blank. The sash and case windows have plate glass glazing, and the window at the center of the first floor on the south elevation has colored margin-pane glazing. The building has red sandstone coped skews and raised skewputts, gablehead stacks with red sandstone copes, and is harled on the east and west elevations while the north is painted rubble. The roof is covered with small grey slates and has red sandstone ridges, along with several octagonal cans.

The cartshed, dating from the mid to late 19th century, is a small structure located to the south of the steading. It is built of rubble with a roof that is piended to the south and gabled to the north, also covered with small grey slates. The skews and ridges are coped with red sandstone. Originally a three-bay structure, the northern pier has been removed, and a sculptured stone featuring a Celtic interlaced design is built into the remaining southern pier.
