The Anchorage, 26 Main Street, Elrig

The Anchorage, located at 26 Main Street in Elrig, is a two-storey house built around 1900. It features a distinctive first floor that breaks the eaves and has three bays. The exterior is constructed of squared and snecked whin rubble, with the south elevation being pebble-dashed. The building has dressed granite rybated margins and quoins.

On the main street elevation, there is a gabled porch at the center topped with a timber spike finial. The porch has a panelled door with a two-pane letterbox fanlight. Windows are located on the north and south returns, with additional windows in the outer bays on both floors, featuring gabled dormerheads above the first-floor windows.

The south elevation includes a window positioned to the left of center on the first floor. The north elevation has windows on both the left and right sides at ground level, and one to the right of center on the first floor. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in sash and case style, featuring eight-pane upper sashes and two-pane lower sashes in the porch windows. The gables and dormerheads are adorned with red sandstone coped skews and scroll skewputts, with skews extending across the gableheads. Granite dressed gablehead stacks are present, with the south stack partly pebble-dashed. The roof is covered with small purple slates, and a semi-circular coping tops the rubble garden wall.
