Description

Later 19th century. Former school and adjoining schoolhouse. 2-storey, with 1st floor breaking eaves. 3-bay traditional Wigtown house; single storey school adjoined to S, forming L-plan. Painted rubble.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: HOUSE TO RIGHT: door at centre. Windows in outer bays at ground floor. Windows, in gabled dormerheads, at 1st floor. SCHOOL TO LEFT: window to right. Gable to left; lean-to adjoined, with doors to N and S.

S ELEVATION: 3 regularly spaced classroom windows.

N ELEVATION: gabled and blank.

Timber sash and case windows; 4-pane glazing to house; mainly plate-glass glazing in 2-light windows to school. Red sandstone coped skews. Painted rubble stacks, with red sandstone copes; gablehead to house, ridge to N jamb of school. Mainly small grey slates; modern

roofing to S pitch of school. Red sandstone ridging. Rubble coped rubble walls to E.
