Description
The building is a late 19th century former school and schoolhouse located in Glendoick. It consists of a two-storey, three-bay gabled schoolhouse attached to a single-storey, four-bay former school that has been converted into commercial premises. The structure is made of squared and snecked rubble with stugged ashlar dressings, featuring stone mullions and moulded stop-chamfered arrises.
On the southeast elevation, the schoolhouse is situated to the right and has a six-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above it in the center bay at ground level. There is a small light above the door, and a bipartite window to the left of the door with a window above it that breaks the eaves into a finialled dormerhead. To the right, there is a slightly advanced broad finialled gabled bay with a tripartite window at ground level and a bipartite window on the first floor.
The northeast elevation features a gabled bay to the right with a window on each floor and a broad stack above.
The southeast entrance elevation of the school shows an advanced gabled bay to the left with a tripartite window and a sign reading 'GLENDOICK ANTIQUES' above it. There is decorative bargeboarding at the gablehead, along with two smaller signs to the left. A timber door leads to a small piended porch in the re-entrant, with a small bipartite window on the return to the right. Beyond this, there are two windows to the right with a small gablet air-vent above. The taller schoolhouse is adjacent to the outer right.
On the southwest elevation, there are four windows with a sign board and two gablet roof-ventilators facing the playground.
The northwest elevation features a gabled bay to the right with a bipartite window, while the other bays are obscured by a small extension at the rear.
The schoolhouse has 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, while the school has 6-pane windows with top-hopper glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes and cans. Cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers, some decorative fixings, and square-section gutters are present, along with both decorative and plain bargeboarding.
Inside, the school features boarded timber dadoes and a corbelled kingpost roof. The schoolhouse interior was not seen in 2000.
