Description

Navarre is a two-storey house located at 165 Main Street in Glenluce, built in the later 19th century. The house features a three-bay design with the first floor breaking the eaves. It has a pebble-dashed exterior with painted dressings, raised margins, and broad channelled quoin strips.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a central doorcase that includes a tablet and a heavily consoled cornice, leading to a panelled door with a fanlight above. To the left and right at ground level, there are canted windows with cornices and blocking courses. A small window is positioned at the centre of the first floor, with pedimented dormerheads above bipartite windows in the left and right bays.

The west elevation has windows at the outer left and right on both the ground and first floors. The east elevation is gabled and blank.

The house features plate glass glazing in sash and case windows, red sandstone coped skews, and pebble-dashed gablehead stacks on the east and west sides. The roof is covered with purple-grey slates, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods with octagonal cans.

In front of the house, there is a very low garden wall to the west, topped with saddleback coping and surmounted by cast-iron Art Nouveau railings, which are also seen on the similarly styled gate.
