Description
Rose Cottage is a two-storey, three-bay house built in the later 19th century, located at the end of a terrace on Main Street in Kirkcolm. The house features painted render, with the south elevation dry-dashed and painted raised tabbed margins. Quoin strips are present, and the east elevation has segmental-arched openings at the first floor and to the porch.
The main elevation facing East has a central crenellated painted stone porch with a semicircular raised parapet. There is a door to the east and a window to the south. To the left bay at ground floor, there is a hoodmoulded bipartite window, and there is a window in each bay at the first floor. The external finish of the neighbouring building to the right extends onto this elevation.
On the south elevation, there are windows to the left and right at the first floor. The north elevation is adjoined to the lower building, No 16 Main Street.
The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in sash and case style. The house features red sandstone coped skews, dry-dashed gablehead stacks on the north and south, and is covered with small grey slates. The property has octagonal and square chimney cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods and decorative gutter fixtures.
