Description

Masonfield is a late 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house located in Creebridge, Newton Stewart. The building is constructed from squared and snecked whin rubble, featuring granite dressings, polished margins, an eaves course, and a cornice. It has a bull-faced base course and rusticated quoins, with a double-pile plan consisting of two gabled blocks.

On the north elevation facing Creebridge, there is a raised doorcase at the center, complete with a cornice and angled blocking course, leading to a deep-set panelled door topped with a plate glass fanlight. The outer bays at the ground floor have canted windows with a cornice and blocking course, while the first floor features single light windows.

The west elevation includes a bipartite window at the ground floor and a window at the first floor on the left gable, along with a window at both levels on the recessed right gable. A garden wall is attached to the right side.

On the east elevation, there is a bipartite window at the ground floor and a window at the first floor on the right gable, with a window at both levels on the recessed left gable. The left gable has a recessed wing that features two doors and two windows at the ground floor, and two windows at the first floor.

The house has plate glass glazing in sash and case windows, although some modern glazing is present on the east and west elevations. The roof is shallow pitched, covered with grey slates, and features coped skews with cavetto moulding at the eaves. A central stack is positioned between the front and rear blocks, adorned with decorative square cans.

Additionally, there are fleur-de-lis cast-iron railings set in granite saddleback coping along the road to Creebridge, supported by cast-iron posts.
