Description
The public school on Eigg was built in 1829 and consists of a simple rectangular two-storey and attic structure that faces south. It has a symmetrical three-bay design, with a later 19th-century school added to the west gable. Both buildings are constructed from rubble, featuring tooled ashlar margins on the school.
The main entrance to the house is a central door that is obscured by a later timber and corrugated iron porch, which includes a side entrance flanked by small windows. The roof has three dormers, which are small piended dormers that break the wallhead, with the center dormer being particularly small and rising directly from the wallhead. There is also a small rear window and the glazing consists of four panes. The building has end stacks and a slate roof.
The school, built in 1877, features two large multi-pane glazed windows that light the south gable and the long west elevation of the simple rectangular schoolroom. It has a slate roof with projecting eaves.
