Description
Miavaig Bridge is a "pack-horse" type clapper bridge of uncertain date, likely from the 19th century, although there were plans for a road towards Loch Roaig in the late 18th century. The bridge features a narrow pathway and is quite impressive, although part of its length is now obscured by the rocky embankment of the current main road. It has three small flat-lintelled openings, with two smaller ones positioned above a larger central opening, which allows for tidal inflow and outflow from a long, shallow sea inlet. The bridge is constructed from large pinned rubble blocks arranged in regular courses, with low ledges that have been rebuilt and repaired using concrete and rubble. It is topped with a low wrought-iron fence, which is of comparatively early date.
