Description

Loch Lomond And Trossachs National Park Planning Authority

Aberfoyle Bridge is an 18th century rubble bridge of 2 segmental-arched spans with a central faceted battered cutwater. The parapet has rough flat rubble coping. The bridge carries a narrow, humped carriageway N-S from the main part of Aberfoyle, formerly known as the Clachan of Aberfoyle, to the Kirkton of Aberfoyle. The N approach has 2 long wing walls; the line of the wall to the E has been altered to widen the approach to the bridge.

This bridge is an only slightly altered 18th century bridge of relatively large scale for the locality, and has added interest as the bridge which spans the River Forth closest to its source.
