Description

Aberfoyle Bridge is an 18th century rubble bridge featuring two segmental-arched spans and a central faceted battered cutwater. The parapet is topped with rough flat rubble coping. The bridge supports a narrow, humped carriageway that runs north-south, connecting the main part of Aberfoyle, previously known as the Clachan of Aberfoyle, to the Kirkton of Aberfoyle. The northern approach includes two long wing walls, with the eastern wall altered to widen the approach to the bridge. This bridge is a largely unaltered example from the 18th century and is notable for its relatively large scale for the area, as well as being the bridge that spans the River Forth closest to its source.
