Description
The Bridge Over Eas A' Chruisgein in Drimsynie is an early 19th century road bridge constructed of random rubble. It features two segmental arches, a central splay-topped cutwater, and truncated curved wing walls. Notably, there are remains of a concrete bridge nearby, which may have been built during wartime.
This bridge was part of the old road connecting Lochgoilhead to Carrick Castle, but it is no longer in use since the road was redirected to a new bridge downstream in the later 20th century. Just downstream from the rubble bridge, there are three round concrete piers on each side of the burn, likely remnants of a temporary bridge constructed during the Second World War to accommodate increased traffic to the Ministry of Defence post at Douglas Pier.
The design of this bridge is similar to a larger two-arch bridge built around 1810 over the River Goil at Lochgoilhead, suggesting that both structures may have been constructed around the same time and possibly as part of a single building project.
