Description

The Peel House is a one and a half storey, T-plan villa built around 1846, with a rear wing added in the early 20th century. It is located on the east bank of Loch Goil, on a plot that slopes down from Inverlounin Road, with the front elevation facing the loch.

The front of the house features three bays, including a gable-ended bay on the right and a small gabled porch supported by columns at the center. On the ground floor, there is a double window and a canted bay window, both designed to provide excellent views of the loch from the principal rooms. The first floor has a segmentally headed window on the right, a round-headed window on the left, and a small central window, all with gabled dormer-heads that light the bedrooms.

Both side elevations have single storey lean-to additions that were constructed before 1870. The two-storey rear wing, added in the early 20th century, includes utility accommodation on the ground floor and a bathroom on the first floor.

Inside, the Peel House features some ornate plasterwork on the ground floor and a grey marble columned chimneypiece.

The exterior is harled and painted pink, with white painted narrow stone quoins and margins. The windows are mostly timber sash and case, with 2, 4, and 8 panes on the front elevation, and mostly 10 and 12 horizontal panes on the sides and rear. There are two flat-head dormers at the rear and a graded slate pitched roof with overhanging bracketed eaves. The house has two corniced ashlar gable-head stacks with octagonal cans, and a mix of plastic and cast iron rainwater goods.

The boundary with Inverlounin Road is marked by a random rubble wall and a pair of square-plan painted ashlar gatepiers.
