Description

Uig Lodge is a sporting lodge that likely dates from the last third of the 19th century, possibly the 1880s, and may not have been built all at once. The lodge is accompanied by outbuildings, including a cottage and kennels, and features a light-coloured harl exterior with slate roofs.

The lodge itself is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical L-plan east front. It includes a three-storey square tower that is positioned unusually one bay away from the main entrance, which is located in the re-entrant angle. The entrance features a timber-bracketted hood, while the tower has corbelled top courses and a shallow-pitched pyramidal roof with a tall finial. To the left of the entrance, there is an advanced gable that fronts a range slightly lower than the main body of the house, featuring a canted ground floor window, a corbelled apex stack, and skews with kneeler skewputts. The right side of the tower has a single bay, followed by a slightly lower two-bay wing and a single-storey transversely-set gabled wing beyond. The first-floor windows cut through the main eaves level and have jerkin-roofed dormer heads, except for the window above the main door, which is crow-stepped. The windows are sash and case, mostly with a four-paned glazing pattern. On the south flank, there are three bays on the first floor and two projecting windows at ground level.

The outbuildings consist of a one-and-a-half storey cottage with a central door, resembling a two-up two-down design, and a rear wing that forms a T-plan. There is a wide archway in the east flank of the wing, as well as octagonal kennels with a facetted roof and apex stack, enclosed by wire fencing, similar to those at Grimersta.
