Description
The former school and schoolhouse in Gravir, Lewis, was built after the 1872 Education Act. It is designed in a T-plan layout, with the schoolhouse located at the rear (south). The building features harled walls, small-paned single or timber-mullioned windows, and slate roofs.
The school has a symmetrical three-bay front with three windows, and the centre gable contains taller windows. There is a porch that is recessed on the right-hand side.
The schoolhouse is a single storey with an attic, featuring higher eaves and roof-ridge levels, although the roofs are integrated. It has gabled dormer-heads at the first floor and apex stacks.
The playground is enclosed by walls made of rubble.
