Description
This is a circa 1840 gate lodge, likely serving Glentruim House. It is a single-story building with a wide, three-bay design and a slightly irregular H-plan. The front and return gables are constructed of tooled ashlar, while the rear is harl pointed. The window and door surrounds are also of tooled ashlar. The lodge features a central entrance beneath a shaped gable, displaying pottery shields bearing the MacPherson family arms on the northeast front. The outer bays are slightly advanced and gabled, each containing a tripartite window. A single-bay is present on the southeast return gable, and a two-bay section on the northwest return. The windows are fitted with four-pane glazing, and the roof is covered in slate with saw-tooth skew detail, along with end and ridge coped stacks.
The lodge is approached by a pair of later 19th-century decorative cast-iron carriage gates, complemented by a matching pedestrian gate and railings. These are set within three slender, fluted cast-iron gate piers adorned with decorative finials. The building is marked as South Lodge on Ordnance Survey maps and is located within the Cairngorms National Park.
