Description
This is a small burial ground, dating to circa 1847, located near Glentruim House, by Newtonmore, within the Cairngorms National Park. The burial ground is enclosed by a coped rubble wall and features a pair of plain cast-iron gates on the west side. In the centre stands a tooled grey granite ashlar corniced plinth with long and short detailing, against which tombstones and plaques are set. The earliest dated inscription is from 1847, with various later family tombstones also present within the enclosure. The burial ground is on a commanding site on high ground, overlooking the upper Spey valley. It is associated with Major Evan MacPherson, who acquired wealth in India and built Glentruim House around 1835-40; he died on 22 January 1847 and is buried here.
