Description
East Lodge is an early 19th century rectangular, single-story dwelling situated within the Cluny Castle estate, within the Cairngorms National Park. The building has a piended slate roof which extends beyond the walls to create a continuous verandah on three sides, supported by simple painted wooden columns. The front elevation is constructed of tooled grey granite ashlar, while the rear is of rubble.
The central door has been altered; a window has been enlarged to the west, and original casements with moulded wooden mullions and transoms remain to the right and in the centre of the east return gable. The windows have multi-pane glazing, and a central ridge stack features a 'thack stane'. A modern, flat-roofed, single-story, single-bay extension has been added to the west.
The entrance is marked by slender cast-iron octagonal gate piers with revolving pedestrian gates, flanked by a pair of decorative wrought- and cast-iron carriage gates. Low coped ashlar quadrant walls with spearhead railings run alongside, terminating in square end piers with crenellated caps. The lodge was likely originally thatched and built in a 'cottage orne' style.
