Description
West Lodge is a rectangular, two-storey dwelling built in the 1830s and 1840s. The south and west elevations, facing the road and drive, are constructed from tooled ashlar stone, while the rear and east elevations use coursed rubble. The west elevation features a regular two-bay design, with pointed-headed windows on the first floor, some of which are blind. The windows have four-pane glazing. A single-storey, lean-to extension is located at the east side of the lodge.
A deep string course runs around the building just below the wallhead, connecting to square, crenellated mock angle turrets which incorporate chimney stacks. The roof is slate. A pair of octagonal, tooled granite gate piers with crenellated caps connect to the lodge on the east and to a hexagonal, two-storey, crenellated pavilion on the west, via low, coped quadrant walls. Cast-iron spearhead railings and a matching pair of carriage gates complete the arrangement. The lodge is situated within the Cairngorms National Park.
