Description
Birch Cottage is an early to mid-19th century pair of single-storey cottages, each three bays wide with a central door. The cottages are built of whitewashed rubble with double plank doors. They have two-pane windows, small gable loft windows, and modern fenestration to the rear. The roofs are corrugated iron and feature end and ridge stacks. A single-bay extension is present at the northwest gable.
The interiors have been modernised, but the southeast cottage retains a stone canopied hearth with a monolith chimney breast supported by corbels.
A dry stone garden wall divides the cottages' gardens from the road, and the fronts face an old military road. The northwest cottage is believed to have once been an inn, locally known as "The Splash."
The cottages are situated within the Cairngorms National Park.
