Description
An early 19th century long, south-facing single-storey and attic range forms part of Cluny Castle, extending as a wing to the west to create a shallow L-plan. The building comprises a dwelling, carriage house, and stables. The construction is of rubble with tooled rubble dressings. Originally a two-bay cottage, it was later enlarged to the left of the entrance by incorporating a segmental-headed carriage bay, which was then infilled with masonry and a small window. The entrance features a tall, segmental-headed fanlight with intricate tracery, and a similar masonry head to the window on the right, which is partially concealed behind boarding to accommodate a square-headed 12-pane sash window. A modern swept dormer has been added. The centre of the range contains two segmental-headed carriage bays, with stables to the left and three gabled loft doors breaking the wallhead (one now a window). Each gablet has pigeon flight holes. An end stack is present and the roof is slate with projecting eaves. The carriage house area is now used as a sawmill. The building is situated within the Cairngorms National Park.
