Description
This is a substantial double-span rubble bridge dating from approximately 1800 to 1810. Constructed of rubble with dressed stone arch rings, the bridge features splayed approaches and abutment arches showing a roughly constructed long-short masonry pattern at the angles. Low rubble parapets run along the bridge, and a curved approach is visible from the east bank. Each arch span measures approximately 33 feet. The bridge was built as part of a military road realignment between Dalwhinnie and Drumochter, undertaken between 1798 and 1813 as part of a wider programme of military road improvements. The River Truim forms the boundary with Laggan Parish. The bridge was repaired in 1975 as part of a conservation project. It is now bypassed. William Taylor's "The Military Roads in Scotland" (1976) and G R Curtis's "Roads and Bridges between Dunkeld and Inverness, 1725 - 1925" (1978-80) provide further details.
