Description

35-37 Hope Street is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa designed in a classical style, featuring a single-storey, single-bay addition that matches the original style. The building has a smooth rendered finish, designed to look like channelled ashlar on the ground floor front, with rusticated ashlar quoins and windows. It has a grey slate piended roof, a base course, a string course at the first floor front, and a moulded wallhead course. The villa includes four-pane timber sash and case windows, two ashlar-corniced rendered ridge stacks with cream cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The front elevation showcases a six-panelled, two-leaf door at the centre, which is topped by an astragalled fanlight. This door is framed by a pilastered and block-pedimented doorpiece with cavetto margins. There are windows on either side of the door, and three additional windows on the first floor. To the right, there is a single-storey bay with a flat roof, featuring a half-glazed door and fanlight, as well as a door set in a small curtain wall to the left.

On the right return elevation, the ground floor is concealed by the addition, while the first floor has two windows. The rear elevation includes a single-storey, piend-roofed bay to the left, a window to the right, and a stair window on the first floor with additional windows to the left and right.

The interior has not been seen. The property also features low coped boundary walls and four squat gatepiers at the front, although the railings and gates have been removed. There is a high rubble wall to the side and rear, along with piend-roofed outbuildings.
