Christ Church (Episcopal), Hope Street, Lanark

Christ Church (Episcopal) on Hope Street in Lanark was designed by John Henderson and completed in 1858. This Gothic-style church features a nave and a north aisle, along with a northeast chapel. The exterior is constructed from snecked squared rubble, accented with stugged ashlar dressings. The west window showcases decorated tracery, while the north and south sides have paired cusped lancets. A projecting porch is located at the northwest, featuring a simple pointed arch with a hood mould. There is a corbelled turret with a fleche and gablet louvres on the southwest side. The northeast transept, made of red sandstone, has a splayed gable end wall shaped by the street's angle and includes a large window with late 14th-century tracery. The church has a slate roof with gable head crosses. Inside, the east end is apsed, and there is an arcade of depressed pointed arches between the nave and the north aisle. The timber roof features braced collars and struts supporting the principal rafters.
