St Kentigern's Church, Hope Street, Lanark

St Kentigern's Church, located on Hope Street in Lanark, was designed by W and J Hay in 1883 and features a Gothic architectural style that dates back to the 13th century. The church includes a nave and aisles, along with a square tower topped by a 138-foot spire situated at the south end. The exterior is constructed from snecked rubble with droved ashlar dressings and quoins.

The façade has two doors with a rose window above, all set under a central enriched pointed arch. Above this, there is a triple light window featuring geometric tracery, complete with a hoodmould and decorative label stops. A gable head cross adorns the structure. The east elevation of the north aisle includes a single lancet window.

The square tower is characterized by lancet windows, arrow slits, and a bar traceried louvred opening, which has splayed reveals leading to the belfry. A string course rises over the louvres to the pointed gable head at the base of the spire, which is decorated with gargoyles at the corners. The spire itself is broached and features buttressed pinnacles, with lucarnes on alternate faces of the facetted spire, topped off with a weathervane.
