Description
12 Cleghorn Road is an earlier 20th century, two-storey house designed in the Art Deco style with an irregular plan. The exterior features harled walls with red brick dressings and a grey-green slate roof. The base course is made of irregular-pattern brick, and the house has metal casement windows with raked cills and predominantly horizontal panes, which are highlighted by brick detailing at the jambs. The bargeboards are plain, and the chimney stacks have a deep brick band at the top, with a stepped-back brick-coped stage that includes some original rectangular cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.
On the front elevation, the entrance door is centrally located, with a small window to the right and a larger window to the left, which is set beneath a swept-down roof featuring a flat-roofed dormer. The gable on the right side is advanced and has windows on both the ground and first floors.
The left return gable has a chimney that is corbelled out at the first floor and is flanked by small single windows on the ground floor and larger windows on the first floor.
The right return elevation includes various windows, including a stair window, a wallhead stack, and a door leading to a single-storey flat-roofed garage or utility bay on the right.
On the rear elevation, the gable on the left is advanced and has a window on the first floor, with a wallhead stack rising from the right roof pitch. There is a single-storey flat-roofed bay further advanced from the ground floor, and to the right at the re-entrant angle, there is a two-storey flat-roofed bay with a window on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor. A blank recessed bay is located at the far right. The interior has not been seen.
