Description
17 Charlotte Street in Ayr is a house built in the later 19th century. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-bay design on a corner site. The exterior is made of painted ashlar and includes a base course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, architraves, and cill blocks around the window openings, as well as cornices above the ground floor windows.
On the north elevation, there is a cavetto-splayed arched doorpiece on the outer left, topped with a decorative consoled cornice. Steps lead up to a recessed timber door with a fanlight above it, and there is a single window directly above on the first floor. The bays to the right have regular fenestration, and there is a single off-centre canted dormer in the attic.
The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case style, with stained glass in the lower panes of the first-floor window on the outer left. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews, corniced gablehead stacks, and circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
