Description
5 Cathcart Street in Ayr is an early 19th century house that stands two stories tall with an attic and features a symmetrical three-bay front. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, with a base course and eaves course, and the openings have painted margins.
On the southwest entrance elevation, there is a step leading up to a central doorpiece with a square head and cavetto-splayed design. The entrance has a two-leaf timber door topped by a letterbox fanlight, with a single window directly above it on the first floor. There are single windows flanking the entrance on both the ground and first floors. At the attic level, there are single dormers on both the outer right and left sides.
The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the ground and first floors, while the attic features plate glass windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced stacks, with circular cans present on the left stack only.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
