8 Cathcart Street, Ayr

8 Cathcart Street in Ayr is an early 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay tenement that is part of a terrace and features shopfronts on the ground floor. The building has a painted render finish and includes a base course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and strip margins. The window openings on the upper floors have painted margins.

On the northeast elevation, there are steps leading to a central doorpiece with columns and a cornice, topped with a block pediment. It features a patera frieze, but there is no exterior door, only a letterbox fanlight. Above this, single windows are aligned on the first and second floors. The ground, first, and second floors each have single windows flanking the central doorpiece, with larger shop windows on the ground floor, which are wider on the left side. The shop windows have Edwardian timber architraves.

The ground floor shop windows are fitted with modern glazing in two windows on the left side of the first floor, while the right side has a six-pane upper sash window. The second floor features plate glass timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews and coped brick stacks with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998.
