Description

This mid-19th century house at 6 Cassillis Street in Ayr is a two-storey building with a basement, featuring a rectangular plan and located on a corner site. It is constructed from coursed, squared sandstone and includes architectural details such as an eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and strip quoin on the right side. The windows are architraved, with a cornice above the window on the ground floor of the east elevation.

The east elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a stepped platt that overhangs the basement on the right. The entrance features a double pilastered doorpiece with a cornice and block pediment, a glazed timber door, a letterbox fanlight, and a sidelight to the right. Above this, there is a single window aligned at the first floor, with a glazed timber door below it at the basement. The left bay has regular fenestration at the basement, ground, and first floors.

On the north side elevation, which has three bays, there are windows in the center and left at the basement, with regular fenestration at the ground and first floors. The ground floor has windows on the center and right, while the central window on the first floor has been infilled. A small modern extension is present on the outer right.

The upper sashes of the east elevation feature 4-pane lying pane glazing, while the basement has plate glass. The north elevation includes 6- and 10-pane lying pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring rooflights, stone skews, corniced gablehead stacks, and both circular and polygonal chimney cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998. Additionally, there are iron railings leading to the stepped platt and basement on the east elevation, along with an iron gate to the left.
