Description
Oaklands is a two-storey house with a basement, dating from the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It forms the end of a terrace and features a three-bay design. The exterior is constructed of coursed and tooled cream sandstone, with sandstone ashlar dressings. Notable architectural details include a base course, a band course dividing the floors, and a lintel course beneath the eaves. The building has long and short quoins, surrounds to openings, and projecting cills, which are bracketed at the first floor on the front and have panelled aprons on the side.
The northeast entrance elevation has a step leading to a timber panelled door that is centrally located at the ground floor, accompanied by a geometric-patterned fanlight and a corniced canopy above. There is a single window aligned at the first floor, with additional single windows at both floors in the bay to the outer right. In the bay to the outer left, there is a large, two-leaf boarded timber door set in a segmental-arched basement opening, with single windows aligned above at both floors.
The northwest side elevation features a four-bay design at the ground floor and a three-bay design at the first floor. It has a timber panelled door at the ground floor, with a plain fanlight, and a later part-glazed timber door offset to the left, also with a plain fanlight. A full-width corniced canopy spans above these doors. There is a single window centred at the first floor, along with single windows in the outer left and right bays at both floors.
The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case designs, although some have been replaced with uPVC. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design. Corniced ashlar wallhead stacks are present on the southeast and northwest sides, topped with octagonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls to the front and side, which are complemented by plain and decorative iron railings.
