Description
Beech Cottage is a possibly late 18th century house with later additions and alterations, located on High Street in Ayton. It is a near-symmetrical, two-storey building with a basement and three bays, forming part of a terrace. The exterior is constructed of rubble with rubble sandstone dressings, featuring droved long and short surrounds to the openings, painted margins, and projecting cills.
On the northeast elevation, there is a modern timber panelled door centered at the ground level, with single windows in both floors of the flanking bays. A boarded timber basement door is offset to the outer right. The cottage has modern glazing throughout and is topped with a grey slate roof and stone-coped skews. It features corniced brick and sandstone ridge stacks with various cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998. A low coped boundary wall encloses the site at the front.
